Why Dhanmondi

A neighborhood
in Dhaka.
A name in Queens.

ধানমন্ডি

Dhanmondi — from dhan (paddy, grain) and mandi (market) — is one of Dhaka's most beloved neighborhoods. Tree-lined streets, lakeside cafés, art galleries, and the kinds of conversations that shaped modern Bangladesh. It became a gathering place for intellectuals, artists, and families who built the country's cultural identity.

It's also where this family is from.

Naming this plaza after Dhanmondi is a deliberate act of memory — and of ambition. We're bringing its spirit to Hillside Avenue: the idea that a neighborhood can be a destination, that commerce and culture can share a building, and that a community deserves something built with care and intention.

Jamaica, Queens is our Dhanmondi.

How it works

The Ecosystem
Advantage.

DM Plaza is not five businesses sharing a building. It is a coordinated cross-traffic system where every concept generates exposure, revenue, and community for every other concept.

01
Event guests at Meridian Hill discover Desi Dragon, Pearl & Leaf, and Nature's Bazaar.
02
Grocery shoppers at Nature's Bazaar encounter Pearl & Leaf at the counter — built-in impulse traffic.
03
Desi Dragon provides in-house catering for every Meridian Hill event — zero coordination overhead.
04
Vendors and partners get activated through retail, events, tastings, and social content simultaneously.
05
Wellness visitors at Top Level build consistent daytime foot traffic outside peak dining and event hours.
06
Content and social media amplify every concept and partner — one building, one content engine.
07
Dedicated apps for each concept enable online ordering, pre-pay, in-store pickup, in-app promotions, and cross-concept recommendations — one customer, multiple touchpoints.

Why we built this

Not five businesses.
One system.

DM Plaza isn't a collection of tenants. It's an integrated ecosystem — five businesses that share customers, data, and infrastructure under one roof on Hillside Avenue.

A customer who eats at Desi Dragon, shops at Nature's Bazaar, books Meridian Hill for their walima, and visits Top Level on a Saturday evening — that's a relationship no standalone business can build. That's the point of DM Plaza.

Built by a Bangladeshi family. Built for this community. Built to last.

01
Shared customers
One CRM. Every touchpoint across all five businesses builds a single relationship.
02
Integrated operations
Nature's Bazaar supplies Desi Dragon. Desi Dragon caters Meridian Hill. The dumbwaiter connects every floor.
03
Community rooted
25 years of serving Queens through Saireen Medical Group. DM Plaza extends that commitment to the whole block.
04
Tech-enabled
Automation, AI, and shared systems running beneath every business. Built to scale and replicate.

We're building something.
Come build it with us.

DM Plaza is a multi-concept hospitality destination opening Summer 2026 in Jamaica, Queens. We're hiring across restaurants, operations, and content — people who want to build, not just execute.

Head Chef / Kitchen Operations Lead
Desi Dragon Full-time Queens, NY On-site

We're looking for a Head Chef to build and scale the kitchen behind Desi Dragon — our Indo-Chinese restaurant concept on the cellar level of DM Plaza. We're specifically seeking cooks with a Nepali, Thai, or broader Southeast Asian background who have hands-on experience with Indo-Chinese, Chinese, or Chinese-adjacent cuisine. The flavor profiles, wok technique, and cultural familiarity are a natural fit for what we're building.

This isn't a position for someone who just wants to cook. We need someone who can build systems, lead a team, and help us scale from restaurant service into catering and events through Meridian Hill, our event space upstairs.

  • Lead kitchen operations for restaurant service and event catering
  • Develop and standardize recipes, prep systems, and production schedules
  • Maintain consistency, speed, and quality during service
  • Train and supervise kitchen staff
  • Coordinate inventory usage and food cost management
  • Ensure food safety and DOH compliance at all times
  • Collaborate with ownership on menu development and operational systems
  • Scale production for events and catering through Meridian Hill
  • Nepali, Thai, or Southeast Asian background with Indo-Chinese or Chinese-adjacent kitchen experience
  • Strong leadership — calm under pressure, team-first mentality
  • Organized and systems-oriented with a low ego
  • Experience in high-volume kitchen operations
  • Comfortable in both restaurant and catering/event environments
  • Able to maintain quality while building efficiency systems from the ground up
  • Restaurant opening experience — you've built a kitchen from scratch before
  • Event catering and banquet production at volume
  • Inventory and food cost management systems
  • Experience training and retaining kitchen staff in a diverse team environment
Compensation $55,000–$75,000 depending on experience, with room to grow as the operation scales. Send your resume, any food photos or portfolio, and a short intro about your background and why Desi Dragon interests you.

Brand Operations Manager
DM Plaza Full-time Queens, NY Hybrid

This is a generalist role in an early-stage environment, and we're being straight with you about what that means. You'll work directly alongside the founder — with full visibility into every part of the business — coordinating content, vendors, hiring, events, and systems across five brands simultaneously.

The split between brand and operations will be dynamic. Some weeks are content-heavy; some are logistics and systems. You won't be left to figure it out alone — this is a close working relationship with clear direction. But you need to be someone who can hold a lot at once and stay organized when things shift.

If you want a narrow scope and a quiet inbox, this isn't it. If you want to build something real from the ground up and grow with it, keep reading.

  • Coordinate social media and content execution across all DM Plaza brands
  • Organize content assets, footage, and creative deliverables
  • Manage posting schedules and maintain brand consistency
  • Coordinate with photographers, editors, designers, and vendors
  • Assist with hiring coordination and onboarding logistics
  • Maintain operational systems, checklists, and project tracking
  • Coordinate event planning logistics and community partnerships
  • Keep Google Drive, project boards, and communication systems organized
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through — details don't slip past you
  • Direct, clear communicator — you flag problems early and ask questions when you need to
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift
  • Understands social media, branding, and content coordination
  • Can balance creative and operational thinking in the same week
  • Self-starter who identifies problems before being asked — and brings solutions
  • Hospitality or event industry background
  • Content production or social media management
  • Notion, Glide, Airtable, or similar project management tools
  • Basic photo/video editing skills
Send your resume, a portfolio if applicable, and a short intro explaining why you'd thrive in this kind of generalist, early-stage role.

Operations & Executive Virtual Assistant
DM Plaza Part-time / Contract Remote

We need a reliable, organized virtual assistant to help keep operations running behind the scenes. You'll support ownership across communication, scheduling, admin, content organization, and backend tasks. This role is fully remote and flexible — but we need someone who is responsive, detail-oriented, and genuinely on top of their work.

  • Organize files, documents, and digital assets across Google Drive
  • Maintain spreadsheets and operational databases
  • Coordinate scheduling, communication, and vendor outreach
  • Assist with recruiting coordination and applicant tracking
  • Upload and organize content and media assets
  • Assist with website updates and backend admin tasks (Glide, Vercel)
  • Maintain organized project tracking across systems
  • Handle general operational support and follow-ups
  • Extremely organized — systems and checklists come naturally to you
  • Strong written communication and professional responsiveness
  • Reliable and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable learning new software quickly
  • Problem-solving mindset — you figure things out
  • Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail)
  • Airtable, Glide, or Notion experience
  • Canva or light design skills
  • Social media familiarity
  • Administrative or executive assistant background
Send your resume and a short intro covering your experience, timezone, and availability.
